Installing Obsidian on Windows

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Download Obsidian

  1. Visit the Obsidian Website:

  2. Download the Installer:

    • Click the Download button and select Windows to download the installer.

2. Run the Installer

  1. Locate the Installer:

    • Find the downloaded installer file (usually in your Downloads folder).

  2. Run the Installer:

    • Double-click the ObsidianSetup.exe file to start the installation process.

  3. Follow the Setup Instructions:

    • Follow the on-screen prompts to proceed with the installation.

    • Accept the license agreement and click Next.

  4. Select Installation Location:

    • Choose the destination folder for the installation and click Next.

  5. Install:

    • Click Install to begin the installation. Once the installation is complete, click Finish to launch Obsidian.

3. Initial Setup

  1. Launch Obsidian:

    • Open Obsidian from the Start menu or by double-clicking the desktop icon.

  2. Create a New Vault:

    • A vault is a folder where your notes are stored. Click Create a new vault.

    • Name your vault and choose a location on your computer to store it. Click Create.

4. Verify the Installation

  1. Create Your First Note:

    • Click the New Note button or press Ctrl + N to create a new note.

    • Start typing to add content to your note.

  2. Explore Basic Features:

    • Use Markdown to format your notes. For example, # Heading for headings, - for bullet points, and **bold** for bold text.

    • Create links between notes by using double square brackets [[Note Name]].
